One Year Anniversary in Beachwood!

To commemorate CVWC's first year in Beachwood, all appointments scheduled the week of June 9, 2008 will receive a gift compliments of Chagrin Valley Wellness Center!

Dear Friend,

"One night a father overheard his son pray: Dear God, Make me the kind of man my Daddy is. Later that night, the Father prayed, Dear God, Make me the kind of man my son wants me to be."  ~anonymous

June 15th is Father's Day. Take the opportunity to tell the fathers in your life how much they mean to you.

Father's Day Origins in the U.S.

"In the United States, the first modern Father's Day celebration was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was first celebrated as a church service at Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South, now known as Central United Methodist Church.

Unofficial support from such figures as William Jennings Bryan was immediate and widespread. President Woodrow Wilson was personally feted by his family in 1916. President Calvin Coolidge recommended it as a national holiday in 1924. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson made Father's Day a holiday to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June. The holiday was not officially recognized until 1972, during the presidency of Richard Nixon."*                                                 * excerpt from Wikipedia

 CVWC Fathers' quotes:

"As a father my children gave my life a new and wonderful meaning. Children taught me the virtues of patience and understanding. As a grandfather my grandchildren have taught me the real meaning of joy in my surroundings as they bring out the beauty of life. As a father and grandfather I learned the true meaning of receiving and giving unconditional love in my life."  ~ Dennis Gibbons, LMT (father of 3, grandfather of 4, founder of CVWC)

"When he wakes up from a nap and he is still sleepy and he smiles at you. When they nuzzle their head into your shoulder. That's the best part of my day." ~ Kirk Dietrich (father of 1, client of CVWC)

"...being a mentor, the opportunity to guide and  mold a young person and still bing mature enough to let that person evolve and mature on their own so that they may pursue their own journey." ~ Dr. Richard Arnstine (father of 3, client of CVWC)

"The best part of being a dad is that I can always count on my children to bring a smile to my face.  No matter what the circumstance may be, my children see it in a different light and can always put their positive spins on it." ~ Dennis Gibbons (father of 3, son of CVWC owners Marge & Dennis)

"The best thing about being a father is it helps you keep the proper perspective on life by providing a constant reminder of what is truly important."  ~Mike Swallow (father of 2, client of CVWC)

The Benefits of Wearing ToeSox® & Exercising Your Feet
by Lydia Williams, CVWC Pilates Instructor

While many of you who come to Chagrin Valley Wellness Center know that I love the ToeSox®, I'm sure you are wondering why I promote them so much.  I feel that the whole body is interconnected and that changes or imbalances in one part of the body affect other areas of the body.  If your feet hurt, everything hurts!

Feet that are squished together in socks and shoes all day tend to feel the most stress and pain.  Remember while you are learning to walk as a baby, you had the most balance while barefooted.  You had the balance of all your toes working separately to hold up your body with each toe doing its job.  We tend to forget all that as we grow older and have to wear shoes all day for protection, function and also fashion.

Wearing the ToeSox® and massaging your feet and toes keeps your tendons strong and functional while helping you avoid your foot rolling out or in and turning ankles.  They also help improve your balance and prevent plantar fasciitis.

So if you see our Pilates instructors wearing ToeSox® and teaching our clients on the proper way to walk, you will know what we are doing here. ..using all of our toes!!!

"Express Pilates"

CVWC Pilates Instructors have been collaborating on the creation of "Express Pilates" classes, a 30 minute version of the hour long class.  This is a great opportunity for people who want to take Pilates, but cannot afford the hour long time commitment.  Classes are open to current Pilates students as well. The 30 minute "Express Pilates" schedule has yet to be determined, but will be available to accommodate even the most restrictive schedule.

Enjoy Fathers' Day!

Thank you for sharing your time with us.  We hope to see you at the Walk for Wishes on June 28th. As always, please feel encouraged to contact us with any questions, comments and ideas!
