"Rules of Engagement"
Whether we are performing Muscle Release Therapy, MRTh® or Fundamental Movement Pilates(SM) the rules of engagement apply. What exactly are the rules of engagement and how do they apply to your therapy and/or movement? What does it mean to engage? As defined by The American Heritage dictionary: engage is to participate or to cause, to participate, involve. We are going to demonstrate how movement takes place and how these two modalities accomplish the re-patterning of the neurological pathways encouraging proper, pain-free movement.

Blueberry Muffins
from Jarvis Wrazen
Here's a delicious and simple recipe that you can whip up in a few minutes and use all of those great blueberries that are around this time of year. Also try using cherries or strawberries or a combination of your favorite berries. Frozen berries can also be used just be sure to add them to the batter while still frozen.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1 TBLSP baking powder
- 1/2 TSPN salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 TBLSP (1 1/2 stick) butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 1/4 cups sour cream
- 1 1/2 cups frozen or fresh blueberries
Directions:
1- Position an oven rack in the middle spot and set to 350'. Grease a standard 12-cup muffin tin and set aside.
2- Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl until combined. In a second bowl, whisk the egg until combined and light colored (about 20 seconds). Add the sugar and whisk vigorously until thick and homogenous (about 30 seconds); try using your non-dominant arm! Add the melted butter in 2 or 3 additions, whisking to combine after each addition. Add the sour cream in 2 additions, whisking just to combine.
3- Add the berries to the dry ingredients and gently toss just to combine. Add the sour cream mixture and fold with a rubber spatula until the batter comes together and the berries are distributed. Don't over mix, there may be small specks of flour that remain and that's ok.
4- Using a large spoon coated with non-stick cooking spray, divide the batter among the greased muffin cups. Bake 25-30 minutes until muffins are light golden brown and a tooth pick inserted comes out clean. Rotate the pan front to back half way through the baking time. Invert muffins onto a baking rack, stand upright and cool.

Getting to Know Us - Part II
As the weather starts to heat up, you can't help but think about vacations and travel!
Here are a few more places our staff at CVWC love to go!!
TANYA - Costa Rica
What a gorgeous place to go! I traveled to Costa Rica in 2004 to perform with the Jazz Dance World Congress at the National Theatre in San Jose. First off, I was with close friends and we were chosen to perform and take class from the greatest Jazz teachers and choreographers in the world. I took class with Mia Michaels, Gus Giordano, and Joe Trimain called me up on stage to perform a Latin Jazz combination with his company. Our time away from dancing was spent by the pool, touring the rain forest and walking the coffee fields. We did not win, but we didn't care. The trip was amazing. Of course, I always love to go to New York...any time for any reason!

JARVIS - Of the places I have traveled, St. Barthѐlemy in the French West Indies is my favorite vacation spot. This small Carribean island has beautiful beaches, great weather, and a laid-back feel. It's a little hard to get to, but well worth the effort. Can't wait to get back; maybe this Fall?!?
SEAN - Cancún, Mexico
WOW, is this place gorgeous! The powder sand beaches.... the beautiful blue water...and all the cool things to do make Cancún a must repeat for us! We were beach bums for a few days, adventurers for a couple days and tourists for a few more. We went zip-lining and snorkeling....ate and drank to our hearts' content....received a fabulous couples massage...and I wore more sunscreen that one week than I normally do for a month!
The people are wonderful! The views are mesmorizing! We will definitely go back....just not in June.....muy caliente!

What the sunscreen?!
by Sean Lyons

This stuff saved my skin!
"Both world wars, the creation of Medicare and the planning and execution of the moon landing combined took less time to achieve than the FDA's promised sunscreen regulations." ~-Jane Houlihan, EWG Senior Vice President for Research
In the weeks leading up to my honeymoon in Cancun, I thought I should do a little research on sunscreen. After all, I have never been that far south and in June to boot! The fact that I have been wearing sunscreen for longer than I can remember made me think I knew something about sunscreen.....I was dead wrong. I learned that for 32 years, and counting, the FDA has NOT finalized sunscreen regulations! These 3+decades of "we're still working on it," enables companies to market & sell sunscreens WITHOUT verifying their claims of being waterproof, SPF levels or providing UVA protection....1 in 8 sunscreens DO NOT block UVA rays!
I found the Enviromental Working Group's website. I read their 2010 Sunscreen Guide and was alarmed and enlightened.
I had been using some Hawaiian Tropic Sport Clear Spray Sunscreen until I saw how hazardous it is.
Check your sunscreen!!
